O is for Ohio!

Beautiful Ohio where the golden grain
Dwarf the lovely flowers in the summer rain
Cities rising high silhouette the sky

Freedom is supreme in this majestic land
Mighty factories, they hum in tune, so grand

Beautiful Ohio, thy wonders are in view

In honor of our great State of Ohio, Grammy nominated singer/songwriter/performer Celeste Reichert Friedman has made it her mission as creator and host of O is for Ohio to present musical-education programs of Ohio stories and songs since 2003 when we celebrated our State's Bicentennial, offered in several formats for any age or group.

A Native Ohioan, born and raised on the sacred ground of the ancient Hopewell civilization, Celeste brings you stories of Ohio's history, its famous inventors, The Underground Railroad, our eight U.S. Presidents from Ohio, the roots of Ohio's industry, the Ohio State flag and symbols, as well as Ohio's role in changing our nation and our world.

Celeste is the recipient of the 2005 Ohioana Library Association's Citation Award in Music and Education for her program, O is for Ohio and 2015 Nominee of the Ohio Governor's Award for the Arts.

 

She also shares original songs about the great Buckeye State . . .

Reflecting upon the Ohio River, as one of the most important passageways of The Underground Railroad,
Celeste's "Big River," tells the story of secret codes in song, leading the way to freedom.

Other originals include "The Children of Ohio," "Down By the Yellow Corn," "O-hi-O," and "Seneca Songs of Sorrow," and many more.
